KARACHI: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday granted bail to former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and principal accused Rao Anwar in Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case.
ATC heard Anwar’s bail plea, granting him bail with payment of Rs 1 million in bail bonds.
Another case has been registered against Anwar for possession of explosives and illegal weapons, in which he is yet to be granted bail.
Earlier on July 5, ATC had reserved its verdict on the former SSP’s bail plea.
Earlier during the previous hearing, Anwar’s counsel Amir Mansoob Qureshi had argued that his the police had no evidence against his client as Anwar was neither involved nor present at the time of the crime.
To this, the ATC judge had questioned how the victims had been shot from the back if it were an encounter.
Anwar along with 11 accomplices is accused of Naqeebullah and his friends’ fake encounter on January 13 in Malir.
