ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Attorney General (AG) and the head of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will submit today in the Supreme Court a report on the implementation of the 2012 verdict in the ‘Asghar Khan’ case.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar had on Monday dismissed the petitions filed by former army chief Mirza Aslam Beg and former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Asad Durrani against the verdict.
The CJP also questioned why the verdict in the 2012 case had not yet been implemented, and ordered the attorney general and the FIA Director General (DG) to submit a report on the implementation of the verdict.
The case itself was filed by former air chief Asghar Khan who claimed that General Beg and DG Asad Durrani had given politicians Rs 140 million to prevent Benazir Bhutto’s re-election.
Asghar Khan had filed the case in 1996 and on the 19th of October, 2012, the Supreme Court issued a 141 page verdict that initiated legal proceedings against the two involved generals.
