ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered Rs296 billion from the corrupt official and deposited the looted money in the national exchequer, declared by the NAB in a meeting conducted on Wednesday.
The meeting was headed by the Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal to review overall performance of the Bureau. NAB notified that 3, 65,374 complaints from the total filed 3, 67,742 complaints were disposed off according to the constitution, since its establishment.
So far, NAB has authorized the verification of 12,702 complaints and 12,189 were dismissed after verification. The meeting was briefed that NAB conducted 8,084 inquiries from which 7,425 inquiries couldn’t continue as per law.
NAB performed 4,001 investigations and 3, 705 were disposed off whereas 2,029 references from a total of 3,050 were disposed off.
Justice Javed Iqbal ordered officials to complete pending inquiries, investigations and complaints within the time frame so that corrupts could be detained according to the law, stated by a press release.
As many as 1,200 references are being heard in the accountability courts.
He assured that the NAB court would be directed to hear and dispose of the cases as early as possible.
He stated that Rs970 billion has to be recovered and deposited into the national exchequer.
He urged that elimination of corruption is the highest priority of NAB. He ordered officers to perform their duties honestly and according to the law.
“NAB followed the policy of ‘accountability for all’, and no hindrance in this regard would be tolerated,” he declared.
