In a meeting with Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) administration has donated 3500 anti-microbial treated facemasks, 160 full body anti-microbial treated PPEs.
During a meeting with Governor/Chancellor UET Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Vice Chancellor UET Lahore Professor Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar accompanied by Chairman Textile Engineering Department UET Lahore Faisalabad campus and project head Dr. Mohsin, presented a cheque worth Rs. 2,556,167/- (Twenty Five Lac Fifty Six Thousand One Hundred and Sixty Seven Rupees) from faculty, officers and staff as a donation towards the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Covid-19. He also presented a cheque amounting Rs. 100,000/- (One Lac) to the same fund as his personal donation. During the meeting he briefed the Chancellor UET regarding ongoing projects which UET has recently completed to stop the spread of Covid-19 by producing hand sanitisers, liquid disinfectant soaps, herbal antiviral disinfectants, alcohol based sprays and recent project of preparing anti-microbial full body protective suits (PPEs) on a very cheap cost.
At this occasion he also presented 3500 Anti-microbial treated face masks and 160 full body anti-microbial treated PPEs to the governor as a donation from UET for frontline doctors and service providers.
Governor Punjab appreciated the efforts of UET for its initiative then Dr. Mansoor Sarwar briefed him about the key properties of the protective suits which include air permeability, thickness, tensile strength, water repellency, tear strength. Dr. Mohsin told that these PPEs were assessed as per international standards and recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO). He said 14 types of operations were performed to complete the stitching of full protective suit. All the development and testing steps of the whole project were carried out at the state of the art lab facilities of UET textile department.
Dr. Mansoor Sarwar also appreciated the efforts of Dr. Mohsin and his team members Mr. Shakeel and Mr. Imran Shahid who worked tirelessly on this project despite the holidays at the university and completed the project in record 3 days.
UET developed full body protective suit cost per piece is approximately Rs. 386, which is extremely low as compared to current price of five to nine times of Rs. 386 for similar full body protective suit quality but without additional vital anti-microbial performance. The price of the full body protective suit will further reduce as in the current development the price of all the material were more than double than normal situation.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Mansoor Sarwar said that UET being the oldest engineering institute of Pakistan has always contributed to the country’s development and willing to further support the government of Pakistan in developing cost and performance effective bio based anti-microbial full body protective suit for combating the Corona virus (COVID-19) crisis situation.
