ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has verified 95.026 million computerised national identity cards (CNICs) during the ongoing CNIC re-verification drive.
During a meeting of the heads of departments of the Interior Ministry on Wednesday, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was informed that during the drive, 3,630 ‘aliens’ have voluntarily returned their CNICs. Over 66,000 intruders have been identified so far as a result of the 14 million texts sent by NADRA to family heads across Pakistan.
The Interior Ministry’s special secretary, NADRA chairman, Immigration and Passports director general, Islamabad inspector general of police and the deputy commissioner of the federal capital were present on the occasion. Expressing satisfaction over the drive and the overwhelming response received from the public, Nisar directed NADRA to put in place a permanent mechanism for re-verification of CNICs.
The minister directed the Immigration and Passport Directorate and NADRA to dispatch teams for monitoring expatriates and ensuring their facilitation abroad. He also directed the Immigration and Passports director general to remove flaws from the online passport system currently being faced by expatriates.
