KARACHI:A large quantity of charas, arms and ammunition were seized at Sindh-Punjab KambooShaheed check post, following the Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Mukesh Kumar Chawla’s orders for a crack-down against drugs across the province.
After receiving a tip, a team led by Jam Ameer Ali Dahar stopped a truck and recovered 30 kilograms of charas, 16 rifles, 82 pistols, 10 magazines and 21,500 live rounds. However the accused took advantage of the darkness and escaped. The excise police seized the drugs, arms and ammunition, and impounded the truck. A case was lodged and investigations are underway.Meanwhile, Chawlaannounced to award appreciation certificates to the team, while declaring the raid a big success for the department.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, he said that the seized arms and ammunition might have been used in some terrorist activity, and the department saved the people from misfortune. He directed the officers to be vigilantin spotting any anti-social or anti-state elements.
